Our Company

DEMCO supplies reliable electric service to over 96,903 locations, providing new and innovative ideas to the membership, and sustaining a continued commitment to our local community.

Service to the consumers of DEMCO begins with a modern system of transmission and distribution facilities with the capacity and reliability to turn the wheels of the largest industrial user.

The system includes eight metering points for wholesale power and 33 substations for system reliability. The primary voltage is 69 kV with 230 kV metering points and substation facilities available. The distribution system primary voltages are 14.4/24.9 kV and 7.62/13.2 kV. DEMCO also provides two mobile substations of 20 mVA and 10 mVA capacity. The electrical system is continually monitored by a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system (SCADA) to detect system failures.

In 2006, DEMCO maintained over 8,686 miles of energized lines: 226 miles of transmission facilities, 6,246 miles of overhead construction and 2,214 miles of underground cable. This distribution network can be found throughout Ascension, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Livingston, St. Helena, Tangipahoa, and West Feliciana parishes.
As of December 31, 2006, DEMCO averaged 90,937 consumers billed per month, with 9.66 consumers per mile of line. An average residential consumer used 1,390 kilowatt hours (Kwhs) each month. Total Kwhs sold were 1,644,896,465, with a peak demand of 417 megawatts, which occurred in August.

The DEMCO system is further enhanced by the convenience of our office facilities to provide member services a local presence. Our facilities are strategically located in Ascension Parish, Baton Rouge (Central), Clinton, Denham Springs, Greensburg, Livingston, St. Francisville, and Zachary.

The board of directors, management and 219 employees are committed to making DEMCO a reliable and efficient utiity. Our system and employees are ready to meet your needs.
