February

• DEMCO.net expands local internet service to include Ascension Parish.

March

• DEMCO takes short-term power purchasing option with Louisiana Generating, L.L.C. in an effort to ensure the lowest possible rates for DEMCO members.

April

• Strike Safe^TM surge protection devices featured at 2000 Habitat Home and Garden Show in Baton Rouge.

May

• DESI, a wholly owned subsidiary of DEMCO, expands service to include HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) for commercial and residential customers with formation of DEMCO Air.

June

• HERO (Home Energy Rebate Option) program available through DEMCO.

July

• Louisiana Public Service Commission approves $132.1 million in refunds to ratepayers throughout Louisiana. This puts an end to the Cajun Electric Power Cooperative bankruptcy.

August

• DEMCO mails out $28.1 million in refunds to over 80,000 current and former DEMCO members. The average residential customer receives a $392 refund.

September

• 3 year drought and record high temperatures affect service reliability.

October

• DEMCO recognizes National Cooperative Month.
