Application for Assistance
DEMCO Foundation

The DEMCO Foundation was created in 1997 as a non-profit charitable organization subsidiary of DEMCO. Funds for the DEMCO Foundation are raised through a program called Operation RoundupĀ®. This program automatically rounds a member's monthly electric bill up to the nearest dollar. Contributions average $6.00 per year per member. Since its inception, the DEMCO Foundation has awarded over $3,000,000 in assistance to DEMCO members in their times of need.

Eligibility

DEMCO consumer/members who are truly in need are eligible to apply for funding of up to $2,500. An individual can receive a maximum of $2,500 through the DEMCO Foundation per calendar year.

The DEMCO Foundation will not pay utility bills nor grant money to political issues, candidates or campaigns. No funds are given directly to the applying individual. Only individuals who are DEMCO members/customers, not groups or organizations, are eligible for funding.

Description of Projects

Through the DEMCO Foundation, the truly needy can receive assistance for various humane needs. Examples of some types of assistance granted are:

  • Medical bills
  • Shelter (rent payments, mortgage payments, etc.)
  • Repairs and maintenance on homes
  • Pharmacy and medical supplies
  • Special assistance in emergencies*
  • Other humane needs
(* The DEMCO Foundation defines an emergency as any natural disaster such as flooding, tornado, house fire, etc.)

The Application and Funding Process

An individual must complete the DEMCO Foundation application and return it with all required accompanying information. The application is then reviewed and a case manager contacts the individual to schedule a home visit. Once the home visit is conducted, the case manager prepares an assessment for presentation before the DEMCO Foundation Board of Directors, who meets on a monthly basis. The board votes on whether or not to approve funding for the individual. The individual is then notified of the board's decision and appropriate action is taken.

To receive an application, please contact the DEMCO Foundation office at (225) 665-0317.
