How does the program work?

The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is a program for children ages 0-5 to inspire a love of reading. DEMCO is the sponsor for this program in St. Helena parish. Each month a new, carefully selected book will be mailed to each child registered in the program. You may register for each child in your home, ages 0-5. In about eight to ten weeks, your child will receive their first book in the mail, addressed to them.

What are the requirements to participate?

  1. Child must be a resident of St. Helena Parish, age 0-5 years old
  2. Submit an official registration form, completely filled out by the authorized adult. Form must be approved by Volunteers of America. Approval is contingent upon available sponsorship funding.
  3. Notify Volunteers of America any time your address changes. Books are mailed to the address listed on the account. Note: If the child’s address changes, you must contact VOA at the address on the front of this brochure or by phone at 225-926-8005 in order to continue receiving books.
  4. Read with your child and have fun!

What happens after I enroll a child in the program?

Eight to ten weeks after your registration form has been received, one book will arrive each month in the mail addressed to the child enrolled in the program at their home address. Your child will continue to receive one book each month until your child turns six or you moves out of St. Helena Parish. If you have more than one child enrolled in the program, each child will receive an age-appropriate book at the address provided on their registration form.

What is the cost to participate in the program?

This program is sponsored by DEMCO, your local electric cooperative. Participation in the program is free.
